Purpose

The SGGM Temple Volunteer Program supports all temple activities to provide a spiritually enriching, safe, and organized environment[cite: 1]. This handbook applies to all volunteers, including Sunday Vedic School teachers, event volunteers, kitchen staff, and maintenance teams[cite: 1].

Volunteer Commitment

  • Serve with humility, sincerity, and a spirit of seva[cite: 1].
  • Act as positive role models and maintain a spiritually focused environment[cite: 1].
  • Treat all individuals with respect and dignity[cite: 1].
  • Uphold the teachings of the Guru Parampara and follow temple guidelines[cite: 1].

Attendance, Punctuality & Accountability

Volunteers must arrive on time, be prepared, and notify coordinators early if unable to attend[cite: 1]. Vedic School teachers must arrive 5 minutes early and stay 5 minutes post-dismissal[cite: 1]. Volunteers are responsible for checking in/out and reporting task completion[cite: 1].

Professional Conduct & Etiquette

Volunteers must maintain a welcoming demeanor, demonstrate Vaishnava etiquette, and lead by example[cite: 1]. During service, stay focused on responsibilities, avoid excessive phone use, and follow dress guidelines[cite: 1].

Service Area Responsibilities

  • Vedic School: Prepare lesson plans, follow approved curriculum, and maintain a structured environment[cite: 1].
  • Events & Festivals: Assist with crowd management, setup, and cleanup[cite: 1].
  • Kitchen & Prasadam: Follow hygiene standards and handle food respectfully as prasadam[cite: 1].
  • Operations: Assist with facility maintenance and report safety concerns promptly[cite: 1].

Safety, Technology & Integrity

  • Safety: Never leave children unsupervised and report accidents/misconduct to leadership immediately[cite: 1].
  • Technology: Limit mobile use to essential communication only[cite: 1].
  • Instructional Integrity: Teachers must teach in alignment with Guru, Sadhu, and Sastra and avoid personal speculation[cite: 1].
  • Stewardship: Treat temple property with respect and participate in setup/cleanup[cite: 1].

Conflict Resolution & Leadership

Address disagreements privately and respectfully[cite: 1]. Foster unity, be open to feedback, and involve leadership when necessary to resolve issues[cite: 1].

Acknowledgment: By registering as a volunteer, I acknowledge that I have read, understood, and agree to follow the expectations in the SGGM Sunday Vedic School Teacher & Volunteer Handbook[cite: 1]. I commit to serving with sincerity to support the mission of SGGM[cite: 1].
