The Journey of SGGM Houston
The history of Shri Govindaji Gaudiya Math is deeply intertwined with the first arrival of our Founder-Acharya, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja (Srila Gurudeva), to the West.
In 1996, Srila Gurudeva's very first stop in the United States was Houston, Texas. He often remarked that Houston was his "second house out of India." What began as small gatherings in the homes of sincere devotees soon grew into a vision for a permanent temple.
In 2010, Srila Gurudeva personally laid the foundation stone for our current temple. Today, we carry forward that divine instruction, maintaining this space as a place of worship, education, and spiritual refuge.
The aim and object of our life is to develop pure and unalloyed love of God. This divine love is the highest gift and it starts with faith, just like everything else of value in life. Faith gives us the eyes to see and perceive the beauty and understand the value.
A sad-guru, or a genuine spiritual master who has fully realized God, such as our founder-acharya, Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja, is an ocean and epitome of such faith. One moment of association with such a Vaishnava (devotee of the Lord) can inundate one with faith and desire to obtain bhakti (devotion to God).
Such a transcendental person is also most qualified to lead an aspirant to the goal step by step, while answering any and every practical question, helping to remove any doubts, and giving the strength and inspiration to proceed along the way.
The disciples and followers of Srila Narayana Goswami Maharaja, who is affectionately known world-wide as “Srila Gurudeva”, have all seen this and experienced this in his association.

Shri Govindaji Gaudiya Math operates under the International Gaudiya Vedanta Society Houston (IGVS), a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
All contributions are 100% tax-exempt. We are committed to financial transparency, providing annual tax statements and acknowledgments to all our supporters.
